Cassandra is the daughter of king Priam of Troy, and thus the princess of Troy. She has many brothers and sisters, the most known ones are Hector, Paris, Deiphobus, and Cassandra's twin brother, Helenus, who is a seer just like Cassandra.
Apollo, the god of the sun, phrophecy, heaing and plague, took interest in Cassandra, and wanted her to be his lover. He even gave her the gift of prophecy. But, since Cassandra refused him, Apollo cursed her so that no one would believe her prophecies.
Cassandra had seen this thousands of times in visions. Her beloved city, her home was being destroyed by the Achaean army, and there was nothing she could do.
She ran to the temple of Athena as fast as her feet could carry her. She tripped over the uneven cobble stones of the street, and the dress she was wearing. But she kept running, in hopes that she would find refuge in the temple. Surely the Achaeans wouldn’t dare to disrupt Athena’s sacred temple…
Cassandra hurried up the stairs leading up to the temple and went inside. She sat down at the base of a pillar. She pressed her hands on her ears, trying to drown out the sound of people screaming outside, and metal crashing against metal.
The princess of Troy tried to regulate her breathing, but her chest felt tight, she was gasping for air.
“Athena… Please, if you hear me, please spare my family… Please,” she begged silently, although she knew the goddess wouldn’t listen. She’d abandoned Troy.
Her head perked up when she saw a figure standing in the door. If she wasn’t afraid enough yet, she definitely was now.
An Achaean soldier was standing above her. Ajax the Lesser, if she recalled correctly, not that his name mattered now. Cassandra knew exactly what the man wanted.
She jumped up, looking around frantically for an opening to escape. She looked like a cornered animal, breathing heavily, eyes wide and scared.
Ajax got closer and closer, and Cassandra had the feeling that he did it slowly on purpose.
Then, she noticed you standing behind Ajax. She averted her gaze instantly, as to not expose you to the man. But it did make breathing easier for her. You were here, and you’d protect her.
