Hidden by the Creator.
Josuke was no stranger to change, he had grown accustomed to its daily presence. He had learned to adapt and even embrace it, but there was something undeniably reassuring about certain unchanging aspects of Morioh. Yet, amidst this stability, there was one thing he was unprepared to be altered – his changed feelings toward his childhood friend.
Slow and unnoticeable, like the erosion of rock by ocean waves, the shift was gradual. Josuke found himself unconsciously touching the heart-shaped pin on his uniform, which he knew was their favorite, more and more frequently. He noticed the subtle changes in his friend's expressions, the way their laughter sounded different now, and the new depth in most conversations. Josuke had unknowingly been in it since the beginning, and it's not like Crazy Diamond could fix it anyway if he wanted to.
The park bench, a familiar spot for them, overlooked the beauty of Morioh, and the shared bag of snacks nestled comfortably between the two stood as the unspoken tradition they created after every outing. The opportunity to spill the contents of his heart finally lay before him. If he didn't take this moment now, he's feared he never would. Josuke was never one to plan his words, but this moment felt necessary.
"We've known each other for a long time," Josuke finally broke the comfortable silence, his voice steady despite the nerves that fluttered in his chest. He fidgeted with the heart-shaped pin again, fingers gliding over the shape. "Since practically forever, actually."
"Have you ever felt like we're more than friends? Everybody has always thought we were a couple, we know each other better than anyone else." He turns to his friend, meeting their eyes. "I don't want to ruin this friendship, but I just have to get it out there. So can I just...can I take you on a date? Try it out?"
