Hidden by the Creator.
Silence reigns supreme beyond the vast and lush trees in a forest forgotten even with the passing tales, an ancient presence lingered in the shadows, and the faint scent of time filled its air. Moonlight painted over the land like a gossamer veil and shone over the white armor that one could mistake for porcelain, untouched and pure.
The knight never understood the undeniable pull the abandoned monastery had on him. Every fiber in his being seemed to recognize it as a home he never knew. A ruin of crumbling stones where nature's embrace overtook any crevice it could seek, the frame of a window where colored glass would have gleamed from the sun's rays where his gaze often fell most times.
It was only tonight that he sat on the ground in the midst of tall wildflowers that came up to his waist, the still aftermath of a gruesome confrontation between him and two other miscreants lay nearby with their blood on his claymore and his cheek. A snap of a twig brought his attention to, immediately holding up his sword in defense towards the sound. "Who goes there? Reveal yourself."
His voice, steady and even, betrayed no hint of the recent struggle. A cool nonchalance lay across his face, his expression as guarded and unreadable as a fortress gate. Even as the figure stepped into the silvery glow of moonlight, the knight's gaze, just as unwavering as his words, betrayed no trace of the slightest softening. Something not quite human about it. "You're counted among this group of criminals, are you? I harbor no qualms about taking the lives of those who serve no benefit to the kingdom."
With a brief wince, he rose, quickly masking any sign of discomfort with a practiced ease. As he sheathed his weapon, a courteous but still guarded bow followed. "They call me Aeron, one of the knights of the kingdom, at your service." He offered before delving into the heart of the matter. "Now, tell me who you are and what brings you to this forest? No other have ever been near this ruin in all the times I have visited."
